How to Change the World and Leave Your Mark in 3 Important Ways
Maybe you’re tired of all the racism going on, the hatred, the bigotry, the violence…
So it only makes perfect sense that you want to make a change in the world and hopefully turn things around and create peace, love, and understanding among people.
Sounds like one heck of a goal, isn’t it?
Well, if you want to make the world a better place, it’s absolutely possible. In fact, great thinkers, spiritual leaders, and average Joes and Janes like you and me can work together to make it happen.
It’s all about knowing how to do it, getting clear on the steps, and tackle things one after another.
If you want to change the world, keep reading, because I’ve got my two cents based on experience on how making a difference is 100% possible and doable.
Can You Actually Change the World?
It’s not an impossible feat to accomplish and even if you’re not a political leader, you can contribute to the beautiful change that the world deserves.
If you can change and become a better version of yourself, inspire others to follow suit, and be consistent with the positive habits you’re doing, changing the world is very much doable.
It all begins with knowing where and how to begin...
The First Thing To Do to Change the World
All people, man or woman, child or adult, can make this change happen.
In fact, there is no such thing as more powerful or weaker when it comes to wanting to change the world.
The Dalai lama once said, “If you think you’re too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito”. Such a small creature can definitely make a massive difference in your skin!
So the crucial piece is in understanding and accepting the fact that you are NEVER powerless about changing the world.
You have everything within you to ignite a change and spread it to everyone around you… To the world at large.
By realizing that you’re more than capable of making a change, the next step is to start doing the work.
Real change begins in YOU.
It All Begins Within You
Surprise, surprise - if you want to change the world, you have to start inside of you.
Change is not something that the government can do for you.
It’s never going to happen through big businesses and massive corporations.
But change is only possible when you make an effort to actually change within yourself - your way of thinking, your habits, the way you deal with others.
And when you change your thoughts, become more optimistic, become more altruistic, become more selfless, you inevitably will change the world!
Why Some People Fail in Changing the World
Now, it is not always easy for some people to change the world.
They maybe have this strong desire to make a difference but end up bouncing back to their old ways, resulting to a failure in their attempts to change the world.
Why does this happen?
A few reasons.
When you really want to change the world, you need to be consistent with what you do.
You set your goals, create a plan, then you form habits that are in alignment with your goals.
If you want to see peace in this world, you have to be peaceful within yourself and how you relate with others.
You can’t yearn for peace when you are not in harmony with your own body, mind, and spirit. Or when you often get into conflict with the people around you.
So to achieve your goal of seeing less violence and more kindness in the world, practice those things in your daily life and in your daily interactions with others.
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
Here today, gone tomorrow.
The goals you set, the habits you create need to be done regularly without fail.
You have to practice consistency with what you do instead of bouncing back to your old ways after a day or two or a week.
Sure, we all fail to be consistent sometimes but the effort must always be present if you really want to make a difference.
Catch yourself each time you are slowly leaning towards resisting that new, positive habit you are forming.
Awareness and mindfulness go a long way when you want to change yourself for the better and ultimately change the world.
2. No Clarity of Purpose.
Maybe they did not give it much thought as to why they even why to change the world or what kind of change they want to see.
So you have to be clear right from the start.
Undefined reasons why you want to change the world.
What kind of change do you wish to have in the world?
Why do you want to see that change?
Answer these questions from the heart and be sure you are certain about your goal. Once there’s clarity, the rest becomes more manageable and doable.
Jesus said, “One blind person can’t lead another blind person”, so if you want to lead the change, be that shining light with a clear purpose.
This is how you can influence and inspire others to make a change, as well.
3. Lack of Commitment.
Changing the world is a monumental task.
It is something that requires your 100% effort, time, and commitment.
This is why when you tell yourself that you want to make a difference, you have to be really committed to making it happen.
When failure hits, you give up too easily.
And when you’re committed, you have to keep doing it even when you hit speed bumps or stumbling blocks along the way.
Don’t give up and keep going toward your goal.
Nothing comes easy but nothing is impossible either.
So stay focused, stay committed, and your efforts will come into fruition.
Three Things You Should Do to Change The World
So now you know the reasons why people fail to change the world, let’s take a look at the core things you need to do to succeed in making a difference.
Here they are.
1. Be empathetic.
Empathy goes a LONG way in succeeding in your goal of changing the world.
You have to put yourself in other people’s shoes and feel their suffering.
Say, you want to decrease violence in your community, you wish people are more compassionate…
Then you have to empathize with those who are going through difficulties because they are victims of violence and injustice and lack of kindness from others.
If you know how it’s like to experience all of these, surely you would not want to be the bringer of all of these things to the world.
With empathy comes a positive change in the way you deal with yourself and with others.
2. Prioritize doing good to others.
What is your priority in life?
If you want to be a bringer of change, you need to prioritize goodness.
Positive things come from the kindness you do. Law of attraction, remember?
Others first, you only come second.
When your goal is to make a change, you should put the others’ needs ahead of your own.
The idea is to not always ask yourself how you can profit or benefit from what you’re doing. That is selfish and will not result to anything good.
Altruism is what can help you make a change.
Self-less, unconditional love and kindness, and serving others without ulterior motive can make a change, a positive change possible.
3. Leave it better than you found it.
This is one of the many things that I’ve learned from my grandfather as a kid.
To leave things better than I found them.
Always remember that you are here to make things better not to make things harder for people.
So always find a way to improve things, to make a situation better instead of worse.
This is why you have intellect and skills - for you to turn something beneficial using these things.
In everything you do, let it be for the greater good of humankind.
What Happens When You Succeed in Changing the World?
Kindness, selflessness, commitment… These will amount to a beautiful difference that you will see in the world.
So make an effort each day to stay focused on your goal of making things better because this is how you can create a change that you would like to witness.
You are here for a greater purpose.
Always keep in mind that you have a much bigger purpose in this world.
You are here to contribute your abilities for the betterment of everyone living on the planet - humans, animals, plants.
The intellect you posses and the skills you have, these are all tools that will make the world a much beautiful place to live in.
Internalize this fact and do your best to make each day much better than yesterday.
With that understanding, you will be able to live your days much fuller and more meaningful, and yes, much happier!
Change Yourself First, Then the World!
So if your goal is to change the world, begin with yourself.
Your thoughts, words, intentions, and actions are very powerful tools that can create a lasting, beautiful change in the world.
Work towards improving yourself each day, and as you become consistent and committed to becoming that positive change you want to see in yourself, you will be able to influence others to make a difference in the world for the greater good of every creature on this planet.
